This introductory course provides an overview of the key aspects about Indigenous peoples including Indigenous histories, cultures, issues, and present-day realities in Canada.  It will introduce students to some challenges experienced among Indigenous communities which stemmed from the significant historical events and developments imposed as Canada has developed as a country.  Some of the examples include treaty relationships, the Indian Act, the Residential School system.  The course aims to build awareness of Indigenous peoples in Canada and to promote the healing process between Indigenous peoples and non-Indigenous people through the process of Truth and Reconciliation.
