This introductory course provides an overview of the key aspects of Indigenous peoples, its histories, cultures, current issues, and present-day realities in Canada.  It will introduce students to the challenges experienced among Indigenous communities which stemmed from the significant historical events and development imposed by the Canadian government to Indigenous peoples such as treaty relationships, the Indian Act, the Residential School systems.  The course will touch on the positive healing process between Indigenous peoples and non-Indigenous people through the process of Truth and Reconciliation.
